Open Letter To YOU!

Dear Friends,

I am honored to say that I am a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Man & Woman of the Year campaign. I am writing today to ask for your support of LLS efforts to find a cure for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle these diseases. In these tight financial times, it’s important we look to the future and support – in any small way possible – organizations like LLS.

I was approached about becoming a candidate by friends in Oklahoma City who know that I am passionate about bringing light to organizations like LLS. How could they have known that I am competitive, too, and wouldn’t it be great if you helped me “win” the LLS Man of the Year? I am so fortunate to have a healthy family, but have several loved ones and inspiring friends who have battled, and some beaten, this type of cancer. Some, but not all. One day we will replace the word “some” with “most”? We’re closer than you think to beating these cancers.

At our kick-off banquet at the Iguana I met our Boy and Girl of the Year from Oklahoma, Chasen and Morgan. Their stories are inspiring, and their families are wonderful. They are among the lucky ones – and their fight continues. We were able to host Chasen and his family at the final home game of the Thunder season, with help from my daughter Nicole, and it was terrific to get to share their stories with others. I wish Morgan could have been there, but I’ll get her to a game next year. You can see more about the events at the personalized blog, http://www.brentoftheyear.blogspot.com.

Here’s the catch – I have procrastinated. Working as sideline reporter with the OKC Thunder, I wasn’t able to give my full attention to this campaign until the season ended a few days ago – and our event is here! The campaign to be the Man of the Year is all about dollars raised. Every dollar raised is a vote and more importantly a vote to cure cancer. I’ve enclosed a donation form and an envelope to make it easy for you to send your tax-deductible contribution (payable to: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) to me. Or, if you prefer, you can go to the campaign Web site and make your contribution there. Visit my personalized page at http://ok.llsevent.org/bweber. Then, I’d ask you to reach out to others you know and ask them to do the same

Again, the Gala is Thursday night, May 21st at the Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City,  and I’d like you also to consider buying a ticket – or sponsoring a table for up to ten guests.  Deadline to get your name in the program is May 1st and for your donation is May 20th. LLS is funding research for cures and helping patients (and parents). This is an organization that is doing the right things with the dollars it raises, and I’m humbled to be associated with it.

I’ll let you know how the campaign goes. For now, I am grateful for your friendship and support.

 Sincerely,

 Brent Weber

LLS Update

Friends, It was wonderful having Chason and his family at the last Thunder home game. As LLS Boy of the Year he is a true inspiration. I wish morgan could have made it, but I understand she was having some minor surgery. I hope it went well.

Thanks to all of you who are visiting - please click the link to the right and buy a ticket to the gala. Wow, what auction items we'll have. The Thunder, Table One, great artists like newcomer Ben Potter, Brent Gibson - amazing architect and dear friend, Londall Guyse at Pier 1 - Penn Square and many many others have already stepped forward in the fight.

See you on TV!
